The severely damaged starboard wing of a Fairchild C-82 Packet that crashed at Isachsen, Canada during the late 1940's, with the 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine and three-bladed prop still attached. The aircraft's number #1 engine is lying next to it. The wings were crudely cut off the wreck, and the fuselage was moved to the nearby weather station to serve as a storage compartment. This photo was taken by Merlin Mac Aulay near the old airstrip at Isachsen, Ellef Ringnes Island, Canada, during the summer of 1958. |
