A very early photo of the Isachsen weather station, when it was still being constructed. It shows the fuselage of the crashed C-82 48-572 in the camp, being used as a storehouse. The exact date of this photo is unknown, but it was probably taken in June 1949, about a month after the crash. From weather station veterans we know that the fuselage was still present in the camp in 1962, and it is very well possible that it is still there today.

Also note the very muddy conditions that existed at the camp (and the airstrip) during this time of year. Aircraft operations were limited to only two or three months each year, during spring and autumn. During winter time there was too much snow, and in the summer there was too much mud, both making it impossible for aircraft to operate. Photo by S. Dow.
